TARGET AUDIENCE ANALYSIS AND INSTITUTIONS

A good publishing institution for us to use would be Development Hell as it publishes the worlds leading dance and electronic music magazine. Development Hell appears to be a small company to publish with and seems fairly risky but development hell has backing of larger companies like the guardian which holds a 14% share of the company. Development Hell also has links to Dontstayin.com which promotes music magazines of our genre in foreign countries such as the USA and Spain etc. Another benefit of Development Hell publishing our magazine is that it is a small publishing company and could help our magazine more than a more established publishing group like Bauer and Future Star as it would be a more independent publication. There is also a Mixmag app that is available for iPad on the app store, having an app would be greatly beneficial for our magazine as it would promote it across the internet and get more readers.
From our Target Audience research, we have found that red is most dominant colour to use in our magazine compared to first initial thoughts, of blue being the common colour.
A major issue we looked at was the age range for which this magazine should be aimed at. From the information of our questionnaire we've found out that the best age range to aim for is from 16 - 21. So in our magazine we have got to make sure that articles fit the specific age and are not aimed at any younger or older age.
When we asked would people like freebies, such as posters, CD's maybe even some festival tickets, the general response was yes. So to make our magazine more successful and popular we've got to include freebies to keep the consumer happy.
The biggest question was, what is would be the best name for a our magazine, the contenders were Freefall, Laser, Electro, Breakout and The Club. The most common answer that came up from our questionnaire was Freefall. When we asked why the had chosen that option, we were told that when your at clubs or festivals you tend to let yourself go and "live free".
The price magazine was discussed thoroughly, we didn't want to either over price the magazine and neither under price it. So with options that we put into the questionnaire. The price which was chosen most of all was £3.50, when we saw these results we agreed that this was a fair enough result.
Another question which was on the questionnaire was "Would like hear about new an upcoming artists or just the "now" artist? from the results we gathered that the consumer would like to hear about both of them. So in our magazines we must equally include new artists while making sure were including artists such Steve Aoki and Deadmau5
