DPS Analysis 1 (Jack Burgess)

This double page spread is from the magazine "mix-mag". The magazine uses some media conventions throughout the double page spread. The first thing, is the leading paragraph. The result of this is that the reader is automatically drawn to the article about the artist which the magazine is interviewing. The format of this article is that it is a Q+A. A good presentational feature is that the editor has highlighted in bold when the magazine has asked the question while the answer is just in normal text. I might use this in my magazine and double page spread because it is an informative yet fun way to find out about the artist which is being focused on.

On the other side of the DPS which is conventional to my magazine is the large picture of Dizzee Rascal, the main focus. The technique used to take this picture is high key. This allows there to be a lot more light into the shot. There isn't too much light that you lose his white suit into the same coloured background. His attire could relate back to the lead paragraph "a young, rich but surprisingly grounded rapper" Which means that he has worked his way up to being famous and rich. In the shot, his head isn't the main focus, only due to his gazing straight into the camera. However the colour of his shirt purple contrasts with the colour red in the lead paragraph which adds more diversity to the DPS. The type of shot used for the DPS is a mid shot. the expression is that his humble and grateful for his success. This could be a good type of shot to use in my magazine because it ultimately looks better on a DPS.

The font style of this double page spread is san-serif, this a typical convention to use in a music magazine of electronic and dance genre. Another good feature of this DPS is the drop capital which is draws the reader into the article.

A common feature used in "mix-mag" is the banner across the tope of the page which goes across both pages. With all the "mix-mag" magazines I have looked at, that is used very regularly which makes it a house style in the magazine.
